COACHES' CORNER
2000
Brandon Fain
started the Shooters program. Coach Fain will be graduating from Morehead
State University next fall with a degree in Physical Education as well as
Electronic Media. Coach Fain will be entering this season with 8 years of
coaching experience and his 3rd
season as an AAU representative.
Coach Fain's overall coaching record stands at 123-60.
Coach Fain's assistant coach for the upcoming season will be Randy
Wallace. Coach Wallace has coached girls and boys middle school
basketball for the past 15 years. With
Coach Wallace’s help we hope to add an 11 and under team this season. The Morehead
Shooters AAU program began in the fall of 1997.
The program had two main goals that year. The first was for the
girls of our community to have an extended opportunity to play basketball
when otherwise they would not have had any choice but to set the ball down
and wait for a full year to play again. The second was for the players to
have an opportunity to play against the highest level of competition
available both statewide and nationally. We based our success on 6
different criteria that we would stand by through thick and thin. These
are commitment, concentration, dedication, determination, motivation and
the most important: HAVING FUN!!! Our
first two seasons of play have shown us the highs and lows of playing very
competitive basketball. With much success in our first year, compiling a
record of 40-9, 5 championships and a 5th place finish at the State
Tournament, things were looking brighter and brighter for the future of
the Shooters. Our second season however, showed us just how hard it is to
compete on the National level and have a repeat performance of the
previous year. The team finished our second campaign at 26-19. The record
doesn't stand out in most people's minds but we had some very memorable
moments during the course of the year by earning the Silver Medal at the
Bluegrass State Games, a 3rd place finish at the Whirlwind
Invitational, held in Richmond, IN and a memorable 3rd
place finish at the 1st
Annual Spring Shoot-Out where the Shooters overcame a halftime deficit to
beat a very good Lexington Diamonds team in double overtime. The
upcoming season looks promising as the girls will be heading out on a
mission this year to prove that the first season and the success from the
second go around wasn't a fluke! These girls have Nationals on their minds
and are ready to set their sites on reaching their goal! The
Morehead Shooters overall record from 1997-1999 is 66-28, 2000-??? The
Best has Yet to Come!!!!!!! |
